FAQ

How long is an automotive course?

An automotive course is three years long.

The first year is dedicated to theory and learning about cars. The second year is spent on practical training where you learn how to drive, fix engines, and do other mechanical jobs around the car. The last year is spent at a local shop, where you will get practical experience with real-world problems.

What qualifications are required to become a mechanic

To become a mechanic, you'll need to pass a series of exams. These exams include:

  • A test of general knowledge
  • Practical exam
  • An apprenticeship test

These tests are designed to ensure that you understand the basic concepts of mechanical engineering and physics before you start working as a mechanic.

Once you've passed these tests, you'll be eligible to work as a mechanic. An apprenticeship is still required. This will require you to learn the trade.

To be able to repair vehicles, you'll need classes or workshops. You'll also have to work alongside experienced mechanics.

If you want to be a successful mechanic, it will take concentration and attention to detail. Repairs to vehicles require you to pay attention to every detail.

To be a successful mechanic, you will need patience and perseverance. If you don’t love to follow instructions, this may not the right career path.

But if you love cars and enjoy fixing them, you could be very happy in this line of work.

Is automotive mechanic a promising career?

If you are determined to excel, the automotive industry offers many opportunities. The best way to succeed in this field is by working hard and learning as much as possible from others.

Because you will be spending most of your time communicating with customers and employees, you will need excellent communication skills. You should also be willing to travel and work long hours, making commuting difficult.

If you are interested in a career working in automotive, then consider attending classes at community colleges. Many schools offer programs specific to students interested in sales, auto repair, or customer service.

Studying mechanical engineering is an option if you're interested in pursuing a degree. A bachelor's degree can be obtained in four years.

Many employers will also hire graduates straight from school. It's a smart idea to begin looking for work while you have the opportunity to study part-time.

After your education is complete, you will probably need some training in order to become an automotive technician.

This means that you will need to pass tests such as the Automotive Excellence (ASE) certification exam. This test covers topics including engine maintenance, brakes, steering systems, suspension, and more.

Once you have passed the ASE Test, you are eligible to apply for a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence License.

You can repair vehicles owned by private citizens with a license. You'll be paid based upon the number of services provided.

It is important to remember that not all states require licensing. If you intend to work in another state, however, you will need a license.

Some states will not issue licenses until an individual has completed certain training. If this is you, you may need another option.

Is it worthwhile to become a mechanic?

The answer depends on what you are looking for in life. If money is your goal, then you can answer "yes". But if you are searching for meaning and purpose, then you should not answer this question.

If you don’t have any mechanical skills, it’s pointless to get into it. It will just waste your time. It won't make you wealthy. It won't make you famous. It is unlikely that you will be made famous.

You'd have to spend years learning how things work. It would be expensive to have your car fixed by someone else. That's why most people don't bother doing it at all. They find something more worthwhile.

Summarising, if your goal is to make lots of money, go for it. However, if you want to have a meaningful and fulfilling life, avoid the mechanic's trade.

To work as an automotive mechanic, do I need a degree? Can I study part-time?

A degree isn't necessary, but it certainly helps. Most employers prefer candidates who have studied for a full degree rather than those who haven't. It shows that your efforts have been put in and you have succeeded.

This doesn't necessarily mean you can't continue to work while studying. Some universities allow students the flexibility to finish coursework during summer vacations and resume their studies later in year. Some universities allow students to take part-time classes throughout the year.

How can I prepare myself for a mechanic apprenticeship

It is important to have an understanding of what you are going into. You should be familiar with the mechanics of cars, and how they work. This will make it easy to find the right place to start your first day in the garage.

You also need to know how to fix simple problems such as broken lights, tires, etc.

This should help you learn how to diagnose issues and repair them yourself.

To put the pieces back together, you will also need to understand how they fit together.

Finally, it is important to know how tools can be used safely and efficiently.

All these aspects will help you become a competent technician.

How can I fix my automobile as a hobby.

It's a great hobby to take on if you are passionate about cars. You can repair them, buy their parts, sell them, or just have fun with them. If you are looking for something new, this would be a great hobby.

It's not an easy task to make this a full-time job. It takes dedication and hardwork. And you'll need to invest a lot of money too.

It is best to avoid getting involved in car accidents unless you have good reasons.

How To

How to Become an Automotive Technician

An automotive technician performs repairs and maintains vehicles. He/she works at automotive shops, garages or service centers. He/she assists customers in fixing their cars, trucks or motorcycles. An automotive technician must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly, safely, accurately, and efficiently.

An associate degree should be obtained from a vocational school if you wish to work as an auto technician. After completing this program, he/she will need to pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence's (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists two sections. The first section tests for mechanical knowledge, the second for practical skills. To pass the test you must go to one of the authorized testing facilities. These locations can be found online or at your local auto dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass a state examination before becoming licensed as an automotive technician. The process will vary depending on where an applicant lives. Some states require that applicants attend a training class, while others allow them freedom to study at their own pace. Some states allow technicians to become licensed right away after receiving their license. While others wait until they have had at least six years of experience as an automotive technician.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. Once hired, most new employees start out working as apprentices. Apprenticeships last for three years. During this time, a student learns how to perform basic repairs, such as changing oil, adjusting brakes, replacing tires, cleaning spark plugs, inspecting engine compartments, and performing routine maintenance. Some students will learn advanced repair techniques, such as changing shocks, installing air filters, and replacing engines. Many schools offer classes during normal business hours. Some schools also offer evening classes when needed.

Once a student finishes his/her apprenticeship, it is possible to become a Journeyman. Journeymen spend typically four to five years learning to install major systems such as transmissions and differentials, steering gear, suspensions and drive shafts. They also learn to perform complex repairs, such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissions, and troubleshooting electrical components. Employers prefer to hire journeymen as they are familiar with the job and can anticipate customer needs.

Candidates who pass the required exams are eligible for a license. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were almost 1.7 million available jobs in the automotive mechanic field in 2010. This number was expected increase 18% between 2009 - 2020. When a candidate plans to open his/her own shop he/she should be ready to invest thousands of dollars in equipment.

There are many factors that affect the salary of an automotive technician, such as where they live, their education and experience. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. A person with only a high-school diploma could make around $21,000 annually. Earnings for those with an associate's diploma are approximately $24,000/year. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earn approximately $27,000 per year. And those with master's degrees made around $32,000 per year. Salary increases are common so professionals who make less than $30,000 a year could realistically expect to earn $40,000 over the next few years.
